What is Adoption Voices Wales?

Adoption Voices Wales is the service that provides a feedback forum for the adoption community in Wales.

Funded by the National Adoption Service, and delivered in partnership with Adoption UK, the service seeks the views of adoptive families each year, to help guide future priorities.

Previous activities

In 2020/21, the event focused on Contact, Supporting adopted young people, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and Education. An action plan was produced by the National Adoption Service following this event.

In 2016/17, following engagement events in North Wales and South East Wales, a bilingual video was produced which was used to raise adoption awareness amongst professionals.

A new life journey framework, materials and monitoring were co-produced, following consultation with young adopted people and adoptive parents. This also informed the content of the NAS Framework for Adoption Support

In 2021/22, workshop were held on Transitions to adulthood, Contact with birth family, Education, and the Journey to adoption for prospective adopters. The National Adoption Service unveiled the AdoptCymru 2025 plan and the Adoption Support Commitment.

Adoption UK delivered Education Masterclasses in 2018/19, bringing adoptive parents and teachers together.

The adoption community was consulted in 2017/18 regarding post adoption support. This consultation helped shape the post approval training courses for adopters, commissioned and produced by Adoption UK in partnership with AFA Cymru, for the National Adoption Service.
