What is the Adoption Barometer?

//

The Adoption Barometer is an annual survey of adoptive families across the UK. In 2019, more than 5,000 families took part in the survey, providing valuable feedback on adoption support and services.

Adoption UK gathers and collates the data each year, to compile the Adoption Barometer report. With so many respondents, the report helps to inform recommendations for development of adoption services.

Recent recommendations have included a call for an extension to the Adoption Support Fund in England, for the collection of statistics about the numbers of previously looked after children being excluded from school, and for more investment in the recruitment of Black, Asian and minority ethnic adopters. Since the Barometer was published, all three of these things have happened. That means that adopters have helped make real progress by taking part in the survey.

The most recent report for 2019 will form the baseline for the Big Adoption Conversation event on 24th November 2020.
